Effectiveness of Hydrogen Production by Bacteroides vulgatus in Psychrophilic Fermentation of Cattle Slurry

H2 is a low-impact energy carrier, which the EU hydrogen strategy has positioned as major component of policy. Dark fermentation by psychrophilic bacteria promising avenue production, though one that requires further study. The aim this study was to determine production performance Bacteroides vulgatus strain during cattle slurry. test isolated from an inland water body at depth 40 ± 5 m. experimental process run 15 1 °C and yielded 265.5 31.2 cm3 biogas/g COD removed, including 46.9 2.6 H2/g removed. CO2 main constituent resultant biogas, 79.8 1.9%. gas also contained 17.6 1.4% 2.3 0.2% CH4. Organic matter removal nutrient take-up feedstock were low.
